Sanofi-Aventis has exercised its option to combine its animal health business Merial with Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, Merck & Co's animal health unit.

Sanofi-Aventis bought out Merck's 50% share in Merial for $4 billion last July and signed a call option agreement at the time...
