Boehringer Ingelheim's oral direct thrombin inhibitor, dabigatran etexilate (Pradaxa), has become the first of the new anticoagulants to show a Phase III benefit over warfarin in the commercially important indication of preventing stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.
